Paullina, Iowa — Two men from Mississippi face several charges after an incident in the Paullina area on Saturday, August 27, 2022.
The O’Brien County Sheriff’s Office tells us one of their deputies was on routine patrol in Paullina when they observed a red Ford F-250 pickup accelerate in an aggressive manner on Highway 10 in front of the Casey’s convenience store. They tell us the driver turned south on Redwing Avenue and again accelerated in an aggressive manner and continued southbound at a high rate of speed.
The deputy stopped the pickup and identified the driver as 21-year-old Jon David Montesdeoca. The passenger was identified as 26-year-old Eduardo Murrieta Cordov. Both men are from Laurel, Mississippi. During the traffic stop, it was discovered that Montesdeoca was in possession of a loaded handgun, which had been stolen out of Mississippi.
Montesdeoca was placed under arrest for the stolen handgun. Montesdeoca’s truck was towed to a secure location until a search warrant was obtained to search the vehicle. As a result of the search warrant these items were seized as evidence from a hidden compartment located inside the vehicle:
27 Marijuana roaches (nearly completely burned marijuana cigarettes)
9mm ammunition
Glass marijuana bong with burnt residue
Small quantity of marijuana
Prescription medication
Small quantity of methamphetamine
As a result of the investigation Jon David Montesdeoca was charged with:
Possession of Controlled Substance – Methamphetamine – 1 st Offense
Possession of Controlled Substance – Marijuana – 1 st Offense
Possession of a Stolen Firearm
Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
Speeding (83 mph in 55 mph Zone)
Reckless Driving
As a result of the investigation Eduardo Murrieta Cordov was charged with:
Possession of Controlled Substance – Methamphetamine – 1 st Offense
Possession of Controlled Substance – Marijuana – 1 st Offense
Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
