Wind Blows Trailer Into Ditch Near Hull Friday Morning

Hull, Iowa — Strong, gusty winds are being blamed for a mishap near Hull Friday morning.

According to the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office, shortly before 10:00 am Friday, a 2006 Chevrolet Silverado pickup, pulling a 2014 Lightning enclosed trailer, driven by 41-year-old Jeffery Ver Hoef of Hull, was westbound on Highway 18, a mile east of Hull, when high winds caused the trailer to detach from the pickup. The trailer was then blown into the ditch, coming to rest on its side.

Deputies say there were no injuries reported in the mishap. They estimate damage to the trailer at about $6,000.

According to National Weather Service records, the winds in that area at the time of the incident were gusting to more than 40 miles per hour.
