Sheldon, Iowa — Iowans bought more homes last month compared to November, 2015, and according to a local realtor, the market in Sheldon was pretty much on par with the rest of the state.
The Housing Trends Report from the Iowa Association of Realtors (IAR) shows 3,012 homes were sold across the state last month, a nearly 15-percent increase over November 2015. Dennis De Jong of Security Realty in Sheldon says the local market reflects the same trend as the statewide report. De Jong says home sales in Sheldon had a “real good November.”
I-A-R president Cindy Miller of Burlington gives credit for the rise in home sales to the unusually mild weather across the state this fall.
Miller says another reason home sales continue to rise in Iowa is mortgage rates remain at relatively low levels.
The median sale price of a home sold in Iowa last month was $148,000. That compares to $140,000 in November 2015. That increase of just over 5-percent has been seen here, as well, according to De Jong. He went on to say that not only was November a good month, but that, in the local market, they’ve seen good increases all year long.
