Northwest Iowa — Sheldon native and president and CEO of The Family Leader, Bob Vander Plaats, took to social media Thursday to announce his endorsement of a state senator from Hull in his race against Iowa 4th District US Congressman Steve King in the 2020 Republican primary.
Vander Plaats announced his endorsement of Randy Feenstra on Twitter, tweeting, ““I am pleased to announce my endorsement of Senator Randy Feenstra in his campaign for the Republican nomination for #IA04. Randy is a man of integrity who is guided by his faith and someone Iowans’ can trust to faithfully represent them in Congress.”
Feenstra announced his candidacy earlier this year after King was stripped of his congressional committee assignments in the aftermath of a controversial interview printed in the New York Times.
In addition to King and Feenstra, Woodbury County Supervisor Jeremy Taylor, and former Irwin, Iowa mayor Bret Richards, are seeking the to represent the Republican party in the 2020 general election.

Northwest Iowa — A prominent social conservative in Iowa has endorsed one of Congressman Steve King’s Republican challengers.
Bob Vander Plaats has run for governor three times. He’s now president and CEO of The Family Leader and has personally endorsed state Senator Randy Feenstra’s bid against Congressman King. Vander Plaats, a Sheldon native, says Feenstra “is a man of integrity who is guided by his faith and someone Iowans’ can trust to faithfully represent them in Congress.”
Feenstra reported raising 140-thousand dollars in the past three months, increasing his fundraising lead over King. King reported raising more than 90-thousand dollars, but ended the second quarter with about 18-thousand dollars left in his campaign account. Campaign finance reports indicate the two OTHER Republicans who have been raising money to run against King had more money in their campaign accounts than King did.
