Sheldon, Iowa — A tradition that takes place each year on the morning of the last day of school before Christmas Break continued Friday morning at Sheldon’s East Elementary School.
Each year school staff greet the kids arriving for class from the roof of the school, dressed as characters from a children’s movie. East Elementary Principal Jason Groendyk tells about this year’s theme.
Groendyk says he thought the biggest hit with the kids Friday morning was a character created for the latest Toy Story movie.
He says this is the fifth consecutive year that he and his staff have taken to the roof to welcome the kids.
We asked Groendyk how he and his staff manage to come up with something to top what they did the year before.
One thing in their favor this year, according to Groendyk, was the warmer temperatures than they’ve experienced in previous years.
