Spencer, Iowa — Many county fairs around the region, and even the Iowa State Fair, have been forced to cancel their fairs for 2020 due to concerns about the COVID-19 pandemic.
One notable exception, at least at this point, is the event that bills itself as “The World’s Greatest County Fair.” Clay County Fair CEO Jeremy Parsons says no decision about the status of this year’s fair has been made. He says they’re continuing to gather information, talking to public health authorities and other fairs across the United States, doing their due diligence to keep fairgoers, employees and volunteers safe. Parsons says a final decision on the future of the 2020 Clay County Fair will be made in late July.
Parsons says, “when this is all over, Clay County and northwest Iowa will need the Clay County Fair more than ever.” He says, “And just as we’ve done for 103 years, we will be ready.”
So “The World’s Greatest County Fair” for 2020 is in limbo at this time, but the final decision is just a few weeks away.
