Wheeler Talks About Legislative Sessions

Statewide Iowa — The 2020 Iowa legislative session ended Sunday (June 14th) afternoon .

Iowa House Republican Skyler Wheeler talks about how each session was conducted due to COVID-19 concerns when legislation resumed.

(As said, “This new session that we came back into definitely felt different. There was a lot less talking face to face or near each other. People were much more willing to spread out, many people wore masks. We did our committee on the House floor as opposed to our committee room, and we caucused in different locations. There was a lot of different things, but one thing that stayed consistent and the same and that is we still had to get our work done, we still had to build relationships, you still have to have those conversations and make the argument to get bills passed. That didn’t change, but definitely different what we’ve seen in past. )

Even with the suspension of legislation due to COVID-19, the Iowa House was given their “homework” for when legislation reconvened.

(As said, “Although we didn’t see everything ahead of time, our leadership, at least in the house, did a really good job of letting us know and giving us an idea of what we were going to work on, and actually before we came down we had a list of bills that basically said, ‘here’s our priorities, read them through, have your mind made up or as questions’ but have at least an idea of what’s going on”)

Wheeler is the State Representative for District 4 which includes a majority of Sioux County.
