Northwest Iowa — Six residents of our four-county area of O’Brien, Osceola, Lyon and Sioux Counties lost their battles with COVID-19, according to Tuesday’s report from the Iowa Department of Public Health.
Tuesday’s report indicates three new deaths in O’Brien County, bringing the county’s total to fifty-three since the pandemic began. Sioux County’s death toll rose to forty-three on Tuesday, with the passing of two Sioux County residents. Lyon County lost one resident, bringing their total to twenty-five. And no new deaths were reported in Osceola County, leaving their total number of deaths at seven. In all, the four-county area has lost 128 residents to COVID-related illness since the pandemic began.
The number of new COVID cases took a big jump from Monday’s report, with a total of thirty-six new cases being reported in the four-county area. Twenty-two new cases in Sioux County, ten in Lyon County, three in O’Brien County and one in Osceola County.
Of the 1,236 Lyon County residents who have tested positive for COVID-19, 1048 have recovered, for a recovery rate of about 85%.
Of the 4,301 Sioux County residents to test positive, 3807 have recovered, for a rate of about 89%.
Of the 1,577 O’Brien County residents who have tested positive, 1352 have recovered, for a rate of about 86%.
Of the 608 Osceola County residents who tested positive for COVID-19, 540 have recovered, for a recovery rate of about 89%.
