Sheldon, Iowa — Repairs are being completed on Washington Avenue, between East 9th Street and the Christian Retirement Home. The repairs and resurfacing are scheduled to keep that section of Washington closed for another week, or so.
City Manager Sam Kooiker says the project’s goal is to flatten out the Washington Avenue and 8th Street intersection as much as possible, to improve drainage and provide traffic with a smoother road surface. He says when the project is complete there will still be a slight dip in that intersection, but will be a considerable improvement over the previous trench-like dip.
Kooiker says there is an estimated $50,000 price tag on the project, which will be paid for with budgeted funds.
Sheldon city crews, along with workers from Farmer’s Market are constructing the project, according to Kooiker.
