A Day Of Veteran And Military Appreciation Event On June 17th

Spencer, Iowa — An event is planned to take place on Saturday, June 17th, at Oneota Park in Spencer to give appreciation to Veterans, active military, and their families.

Heather Warren, Veteran Career Planner for Iowa Workforce Development, says that she worked with a planning committee that consists of regional Veterans’ services agencies to come up with this event that will include lunch and various other activities and displays.

Warren says the day will begin at 11 a.m. with informational booths and displays. Then from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., there will be a lunch that will be provided by regional sponsors.

Shane Schreck will be the guest speaker. Schreck is a US Army and Iowa National Guard Veteran who has experience in the elite Delta Force. He has over 20 years of experience in leadership and operations management.

Iowa Army National Guard units from Estherville, Spencer, Storm Lake, and Sheldon will have displays there. Regional Veterans service organizations will also be there to give information on programs that support Veterans and their families.

There is no charge to attend the event and no registration is required. Anyone attending is encouraged to bring lawn chairs. There will also be golf carts to assist anyone who has problems walking from their car to the event site.
