Sheldon, Iowa — State data shows a record number of new businesses were launched in Iowa last year. Iowa law requires documents to be filed when a new business is formed in the state.
Iowa Secretary of State Paul Pate’s office manages that online portal for business filings.
Of those 35,000-plus new businesses, Sheldon Development Director Curt Strouth says nine opened their doors in Sheldon in 2021. The businesses opening in Sheldon in 2021 are: Scooter’s; Italian Cowboy Cafe; Kwik Star; Jimmy John’s; Godfather’s; Crossroads Nutrition; Therapies, Inc; Rhapsody Massage & Bodywork; and Holly & Company.
Just over 25-thousand new businesses were started in Iowa in 2019. Nearly 27-thousand launched in 2020 and then there was a 30 percent jump in 2021, to more than 35-thousand new Iowa business starts last year.
