Sheldon, Iowa — On Wednesday, August 26th, KIWA Radio was invited to participate in the “Taste of Sheldon” event held on the NCC campus in Sheldon.
Jena Schouten, NCC’s Student activities director, took the time to speak with us about what “Taste of Sheldon is”
(as said) “I’ve invited: organizations, businesses, and churches from the community to come out to campus to share what they have to offer to NCC students. We have a lot of students who attend our college that aren’t from the Sheldon area, and so this is an opportunity to see what the city of Sheldon has for them.”
Students not only gain knowledge about what is in Sheldon, but businesses and churches may get interested new members.
(as said) Schouten says “There are many businesses who come, and they are looking to hire part time workers, and so often NCC students find part time jobs through this and they also can get to know the various churches in the community if they are interested in becoming a part of a church here, as well as, there’s restaurants here, who are selling their food. Not selling it literally, but just giving them a taste of what they have to offer, and hoping to students so that they come into their restaurants in town.”
This is the second time that NCC has put on this event and they don’t plan on stopping it anytime soon. Schouten wants Sheldon businesses and churches to know that NCC is planning on doing this again next year.
(as said) “If there is any businesses, or organizations, churches in the Sheldon area who are listening and would like to be on my list to come next year, please let me know. We love to have anyone out here who is willing to come, and the students also love getting to know the Sheldon community, so we are excited it can happen today. It’s a beautiful day, and there is a nice breeze, and so, it’s gonna be a great day.
