Northwest Iowa — The Boards of Supervisors in at least two northwest Iowa counties have now gone on record opposing the use of eminent domain to acquire property through which a pair of proposed carbon dioxide pipelines would pass.
During last week’s meeting of the O’Brien County Board of Supervisors, Supervisor Dan Friedrichsen made a motion, which was seconded by Supervisor Timothy Overmire, authorizing Board of Supervisors Chair Nancy McDowell to sign letters to the Iowa Utilities Board regarding the Summit Carbon Solutions and Navigator Heartland Greenway carbon dioxide pipeline projects. The motion stated O’Brien County’s opposition to the granting of eminent domain to be used for these projects. The motion passed unanimously.
The Board of Supervisors in Dickinson County followed suit when they met this week. Supervisors in Dickinson County say they’re not opposed to the pipeline going in, but are against landowners being forced to have the lines run through their property through the use of eminent domain. That group also voted unanimously to send an opposition letter to the state about the use of eminent domain for the proposed projects.
