Barb’s Corner Robbery Case Trial May Start April 4th

Barb's CornerSpencer, Iowa — The case of a Milford man accused of the robbery of Barb’s Corner near Everly in March 2016 looks to be ready for trial.

According to court records, 40-year old Joshua Emerson Mandelkow could face trial on Tuesday, April 4th in Clay County District Court. After a pre-trial conference last week, Judge Nancy Whittenburg placed Mandelkow’s trial on a list of cases scheduled to go to trial that day. The Clay County Clerk of Court’s Office points out that just because it’s on the list for that day does not necessarily mean that the case will go to trial that day. In fact, they say it could be pushed back to June.

Clay County authorities accuse Mandelkow of robbing Barb’s Corner while armed with a shotgun. Deputies made contact with a suspect vehicle about 15 minutes later, leading to contact with Mandelkow, who reportedly turned his shotgun on himself as they approached his vehicle. He was taken to Rochester, MN for treatment of his injuries. When he had recovered, Clay County authorities filed charges of First Degree Robbery, Going Armed With Intent, and Intimidation With A Dangerous Weapon.
