Big GOP Donor Backing King’s Primary Opponent

Sioux City, Iowa — The man who is Governor Branstad’s number one campaign contributor is financially backing the state senator challenging Congressman Steve King in this June’s Republican Primary. Bruce Rastetter of Alden says the fourth district, where he lives, needs a congressman who “represents all constituents.”

King endorsed Texas Senator Ted Cruz, who has called for ending the federal ethanol production mandate. Rastetter is the founder of a company that became one of the nation’s largest ethanol producers. King has accused Rastetter and others in the G-O-P “establishment” of “recruiting” State Senator Rick Bertrand of Sioux City to run against him. Rastetter says he’s supporting Bertrand because he thinks Bertrand can win.

Rastetter made his comments during taping of the “Iowa Press” program that will air tonight (Friday) on Iowa Public Television.
