Boyden, Iowa — The City of Boyden found itself in need of a larger fire department building to fit all their equipment.
Chris Starkenburg, the Boyden Fire Chief, says changes are coming to Boyden.
Starkenburg explains why it was decided to get a new building.
He says the new building is two-and-a-half times bigger than the old building, where there was only 18 inches behind the truck once it was parked inside. He says, right now, there are 19 men and women on the fire team and, down the road, will be getting a new truck. Starkenburg tells us a few benefits of the new building.
The new building cost 750 thousand dollars and the department still need to raise 125 thousand dollars, according to Starkenburg. He says they will be having an open house and burger feed on Friday, June 23rd. Starkenburg says this will be a free-will donation.
