Calumet Water System Replacement Approval Progressing

Calumet, Iowa — The approval of the water project is progressing slowly. That’s from Calumet City Clerk Norma Rath.

Calumet voters voted 30 to 6 last November for a bond issue that is taxing 67 and a half cents per thousand of property tax valuation for a capital improvement fund for capital improvements in the city.

She says initially the City plans on using the money to upgrade their water system infrastructure.

Calumet Mayor Mike Jensen says the City buys rural water from Osceola Rural Water, but they own the distribution system.

He gives us an update of what has happened since last fall.

Jensen says the original plan was to start work yet this year.

He says the work is estimated to cost in the $1.2 to 1.3 million range. He says the entire system will be replaced.

Mayor Jensen says they are hoping to have all the work completed in 2019.
