Central Lyon Is Third-Highest Performing School In Iowa

Rock Rapids, Iowa — Central Lyon has been named the third-highest performing school in the state of Iowa by the Iowa Department of Education.

Central Lyon Superintendent Brent Jorth tells us how he and his staff and students feel about it.

He tells us where the rankings come from.

Mr. Jorth says those tests are from the same lineage as what used to be called the “Iowa Assessments” and before that, the “Iowa Basic Skills” and “Iowa Tests of Educational Development.”

Jorth says that last year, the rankings were the same as the previous year, as students were not able to take the tests in 2020 due to COVID, so there was no new information in 2021.

He says the teachers were glad to hear the news.

Jorth says he’s happy to report that students at all levels at Central Lyon did well.

Jorth, who had been the high school principal at Webster City took over the superintendent position at Central Lyon on July 1, 2019.
