Primghar, Iowa — With summer vacation either underway or starting soon, depending on the district, more kids will be eating at home. That means bigger food bills and a greater need for food in poorer homes.
So we thought we’d check in with the Upper Des Moines Food Pantry in Primghar to see what’s new with their food pantry. Brenda Collier with Upper Des Moines tells us that while they have received a big donation recently, they’re always looking for donations.
She says that, similar to the Adopt-A-Family program around Christmastime, they have now started a birthday program in which children get gifts and cake. And they could use donations for that.
She says they could also use some gift bags for their birthday room for kids up to age 12.
If you’d like to donate, you can always call Upper Des Moines to see what they’re in need of. The Primghar office number is 712-957-1023.
There are also several other food pantries in northwest Iowa, each with different needs at any one time. Upper Des Moines has an office in Sibley, plus several others. Mid-Sioux Opportunity, their sister organization serves a different set of counties. In Sheldon, there’s the Sheldon Community Schools’ Backpack Program, the United Methodist Summer Lunch program, and more.
