Chance Of Storms Late Tonight Into Tomorrow

Northwest Iowa — Still a lot of question marks surroundings the threat for storms tonight into Wednesday.

Our current thoughts are that rain and thunderstorms, some with heavy rain and isolated severe weather, will move into central SD after midnight and towards I-29, southwest MN and northwest IA closer to sunrise. If this does in fact happen, the threat for severe storms Wednesday afternoon and evening will likely be farther east and south into MN and IA. If our nighttime storms are farther north that may leave a late afternoon window for strong storms capable of golf ball hail, 75 mph winds and isolated tornadoes. Stay tuned for updates!

An unseasonably stronger wave will move into western SD tonight and into eastern SD later Wednesday. This will bring a good chance for showers and thunderstorms later tonight into Wednesday. Some heavy rain and isolated severe weather will be possible late tonight into Wednesday morning. If the nighttime thunderstorms do not push the more unstable air south, there will be a threat for additional severe weather Wednesday afternoon. Some of these storms could contain isolated tornadoes. This is a low confidence forecast right now. The remainder of the week into the weekend should be warm with only spotty chances for showers and thunderstorms.
