Cherokee Rodeo Taking Place In June

Cherokee, Iowa – With the beginning of spring many northwest Iowans are chomping at the bit for their traditional summer festivities, many of which were canceled last summer due to the pandemic.

But things are loosening up somewhat this summer, with a traditional event this June in Cherokee. The 55th annual Cherokee PRCA Rodeo will be held at the Cherokee County Fairgrounds Thursday, Friday and Saturday, June 3rd, 4th and 5th. Rodeo performances will be held nightly at 7:30, which include bareback, tie-down and team roping, saddle bronc, steer wrestling, barrel racing, as well as the always-popular bull riding. Gates open at 5:00 p.m. Thursday and 6:00 p.m. Friday and Saturday. A full day of events and parade are scheduled for Saturday.

Cherokee Chamber of Commerce director Joel McCartan says with attractions including pony rides, a petting zoo and a kiddie train, the entire weekend is designed with families in mind. But, he says, there will be plenty of fun for the grownups, as well, with western vendors, BBQ, along with a concession stand and beer garden.
