City Council To Review Questionnaire Results

Council ChambersSheldon, Iowa — Quite often the Sheldon City Council hears concerns about garbage and recycling in the city. Recently the council asked the city office to send out questionnaires to residents asking for comments on the subject. About seven hundred were returned to the city office and the results will be reviewed at the council meeting this Wednesday, January 20th. The City has tabulated some results and listed all the comments for the council to review. 540 of the respondents said they recycle on a regular basis while 114 said they do not. Of those who recycle regularly 277 said they use the curbside service, 78 use the container provided by the city and 137 use a combination of both. 87 of those who do not recycle blamed the confusing schedule and 28 complained about the size of the container. The council has been provided over twenty pages of comments received in the survey.

In response to the idea of the city requiring larger cans for both recycling and garbage 219 said yes, 390 said no.
Many respondents complained that the large container in the city parking lot was always full. City Clerk, Angela Beckman tells KIWA that the landfill controls the dates when they will accept its contents.

The council will also discuss a lot in the Trilogy Addition and consider median improvements on 34th Avenue. The last item on the agenda is a City Manager evaluation, which will possibly be held in closed session.

Wednesday’s 4:30 meeting will be held in the upper level of the Sheldon Community Services Center.
