Statewide Iowa — The Iowa Governor’s Traffic Safety Bureau says the two-week period surrounding Memorial Day, Saturday May 19th through Friday June 1st has been designated as a special enforcement period in Iowa, and nationwide.
Iowa State Patrol Trooper Vince Kurtz says troopers, along with their law enforcement partners at the county and municipal level will be out in force during that time as part of the “Click It, Or Ticket” campaign.
We asked Trooper Kurtz about the goal of the “Click It, Or Ticket” campaign.
He says Iowa has a very high compliance rate for seatbelt use, but the percentage of people involved in fatal crashes in the state, who were NOT wearing their seatbelt, is alarming.
Kurtz says that some people seem to believe that, since their vehicle is equipped with air bags, it isn’t necessary for them to buckle up, as well. He says nothing could be further from the truth.
The Governor’s Traffic Safety Bureau continues to stress to the motoring public the importance of buckling up, slowing down, and the need to drive sober to increase the odds of preventing, or at least surviving, a crash. Buckle up, slow down, and enjoy your Memorial Day Holiday.
