Cornhole For A Cure Happens This Saturday

Sheldon, Iowa — O’Brien County’s Relay For Life will be held in June, but there is one major fundraiser being held Saturday in Sheldon.

Dustin Remme is one of the organizers of the “Cornhole For A Cure” event that will be held Saturday at the Crossroads Pavilion event center in Sheldon. He tells us what it’s all about.

(As above) “Cornhole for a Cure is actually a fundraiser and we raise those funds for the O’Brien County Relay for Life which then of course goes to the American Cancer Society”

He explains how the tournament works.

(As above) “Yeah so well it kind of started as something small out at the college a few years back, and I mean essentially it’s a double-elimination bean bag Tournament. It’s a team tournament so two people come on in and it’s a $20 entry. Based on the amount of teams and we run the brackets, so people will show up and they play in a best-of-three in the winning brackets and then you do have an opportunity to work your way all the way back in the losers bracket, with a one-and-done situation.”

We asked him how many teams are registered.

(As above) “So far we are at 28 teams signed up which is an increase from last year before the tournament a lot of them came in at the door last year and we had 43 teams participate.”

Remme says this is the second year the event has been held at Crossroads Pavilion.

(As above) “So this would be actually our second year at the Crossroads Pavilion here in Sheldon, so they did let us use their space last year which was a great deal because I know there’s a lot of cornhole players out there that do enjoy a cold Busch Light in their hand while they’re tossing bean bags.”

He says there’s plenty of room for spectators as well as 2-person teams.

(As above) “We encourage spectators, we will have a couple of raffles that anybody can participate in, which we’re giving away a custom set of cornhole boards that were built by Nathan Schwebach, and then we will also actually print you know pretty much whatever logo you might like from Visual Impact here in town, will stick you know a Hawkeye or a Cyclone sticker on there are also this is actually hot news we’re also going to be raffling off a set of second generation airpods that are being donated from the Verizon store Cell Only Verizon here in Sheldon.”

He says the proceeds will go to help fight cancer.

(As above) – 100% of the pizza slice sales, the registration, all of the donations we’ve taken from our 12 amazing local sponsors. Every little cent of the raffle and everything we pull in goes right to Relay for Life of O’Brien County which is huge and we’re so happy that that’s why people come to participate and be a part of this.”

The doors for Cornhole For A Cure open at noon Saturday, registration will wrap up at 12:45, and both team members need to be present at that time. The tournament will begin at 1:00 pm sharp at the Crossroads Pavilion event center in Sheldon.
