UPDATE: Comments from Sheldon City Manager On Archer Ambulance Situation

Sheldon, Iowa — During Wednesday’s Sheldon City Council meeting there was a lengthy discussion about Sheldon’s potential role in covering ambulance calls once the Archer Ambulance Team is officially disbanded.

KIWA talked with Sheldon City Manager Sam Kooiker who tells us that the problem Archer is experiencing with a lack of volunteers to continue ambulance service isn’t unique to that town.

Kooiker says that, while Archer doesn’t normally have a lot of ambulance calls, emergencies do arise.

He says that, in addition to Archer’s current dilemma, Sheldon also needs to consider other issues that may arise going forward.

Kooiker says there probably should have been more discussions about Archer since Sheldon, Sanborn and Primghar began taking Archer ambulance calls last June.

He says currently officials from both Sheldon and Archer are working together to work through tensions and concerns over how things will be handled.

Kooiker made his comments during a Thursday morning appearance on the KIWA Morning Show.
