Council To Face Varied Agenda At Wednesday’s Meeting

Sheldon, Iowa — When the Sheldon City Council meets in regular session this Wednesday, September 7th, they’re expected to approve the renewal of a liquor license for KwikStar, as well as approve a pair of new members for the Sheldon Emergency Management Agency (EMA), and one applicant to the Sheldon Fire Department.

The Council is also expected to set the date and time for a pair of public hearings on the development of the site that was formerly home to Bethel Reformed Church, which is located between 6th and 7th Avenue on 7th Street. These are some of the items on the Council’s “Consent Agenda”, the portion of their agenda that can be handled with one vote.

In other action, the Council is expected to pass a resolution authorizing the advancement of costs toward the sale of the H.C. Lane Building, on the southwest corner of 9th Street and 4th Avenue downtown. The owner of the building wants to sell the property and is seeking the City’s assistance in the sale.

The Council is also expected to take up a request for Tax Increment Financing for a new Family Dollar/Dollar Tree store being planned for Sheldon.

A possible closed session, for the purpose of discussing a potential real estate purchase, is expected to occur at the end of the open portion of the meeting.

Wednesday afternoon’s meeting of the Sheldon City Council will be called to order at 4:30 in Council Chambers at the Sheldon Community Services Center. As always, the meeting is open to the public, or you view it live via YouTube Live.
