Sheldon, Iowa — When the Sheldon City Council meets in regular session this Wednesday, they’re expected to get an update on the aerial ladder truck situation from the Sheldon Fire Company.
The City’s insurance carrier has taken possession of the old aerial ladder truck after paying the City the vehicle’s value. This is to settle a claim arising from a March incident in which the ladder unit was severely damaged when it collided with a tree on Sheldon’s west side. Now the task at hand for fire department officers is looking into the City’s options in acquiring a used or new aerial ladder truck for the department.
At Wednesday’s meeting the Council is expected to consider a resolution approving the lease of an aerial fire truck until the City can finish exploring their purchase options and decide on the best path forward in acquiring a replacement.
In other action at Wednesday’s meeting, a pair of Public Hearings are on the agenda. The first is a hearing on up to $1.1-million in capital loan notes to finance work in the Crossroads North addition. The second is in regards to a Budget Amendment.
They’re also expected to act on a Student Firefighter application, approve a pair of Beer Sales Permit renewals and hold the first reading of an ordinance amending sewer rates.
Wednesday’s meeting is scheduled for 4:30 in Council Chambers, on the upper level of the Sheldon Community Services Center. In-person attendance is welcomed, but for those not able to attend in-person, you can attend online, via Zoom, by CLICKING HERE.
