Council To Hear 2nd Reading Of Fireworks Ordinance

Sheldon, Iowa — The Sheldon City Council meets Wednesday June 21st with a full list of topics on the agenda.  There will be a public hearing on proposals for Snow Removal Equipment at the Airport, and a discussion with RDG Engineering  on additional electrical distribution within, and adjacent to, Crossroads Pavilion.  This discussion was brought about by the revelation that the engineering plans did not provide for sufficient electrical capacity at the site.  A representative of the engineering firm will be present at the council meeting for this discussion.

Fireworks will also be on the agenda as the council will consider the second reading of a new fireworks ordinance for the City.  The council will have the option to pass this on to a third reading, or waive the third reading and take a final vote on the proposed ordinance.  At the first reading, most council members seemed to be satisfied with the wording of the ordinance.  If the ordinance is approved Wednesday, it will become effective Saturday when it is published.  Until that time it will still be illegal to use fireworks within the Sheldon City Limits. The council will also consider the Third Reading of the Water and Sewer Rate Ordinance.

The Council will be asked to approve the wages for a Water Operator who is being hired to fill a vacancy.  The council will also discuss approval  of a salary resolution for city employees.

The final items on the agenda are for a possible closed session regarding employee benefits, and Crossroads Pavilion wages.

Wednesday’s meeting begins at 4:30 in the upper level of the Sheldon Community Services Center.
