Sheldon, Iowa — A public hearing on a rezoning request will be on the agenda when the Sheldon City Council meets at 4:30 Wednesday July 20th.
At their July 6th meeting the Sheldon Planning and Zoning Commission discussed a request from Ryan Kats to rezone the property at 201 North 5th Avenue, changing it from Residential Single to Residential Multiple. Kats told the P&Z Commission that G & E Cabinetry is looking to expand and Kats would move a four unit apartment building from its location north of G & E Cabinetry to 201 North 5th Avenue. Three letters opposing the zoning change had been received and 10-12 of those attending the meeting indicated their opposition as well. One of those attending said he was under the impression that an apartment building was to be built, but he was opposed to a building being moved to that lot. After further discussion a motion to deny the zoning change passed by a four to two vote. The matter will now be taken to the City Council at Wednesday’s Public Hearing.
Other agenda items include further discussion of the full-time paramedic position. The Council will also consider accepting the resignation of the City Manager and have a discussion about what the expectations are for the next City Manager, and the qualifications that person should possess. The Council will also consider a request from Bethel Reformed Church to close one block of 7th Street during their showing of a movie the evening of July 22nd.
Wednesday’s 4:30 meeting will be held in the upper level of the Sheldon Community Services Building.
