Sheldon, Iowa — When the Sheldon City Council meets this Wednesday, August 7th, they will hold two public hearings. The first will be on the proposed MidAmerican gas franchise ordinance and the second on the proposed electric franchise ordinance. These will be the second of the required two public hearings on each franchise.
After Wednesday’s public hearings, the first reading of the franchises will be considered. If no action is taken, the ordinances will be passed on to a second reading, which would take place August 21st.
In other business, the council will again discuss the proposal to merge the two unions that represent the City employees. They will also consider an Engagement agreement for a proposed urban revitalization plan. This program would provide valuable property tax incentives for people to revitalize their property. The incentives would apply to the taxes for several years on the added value created by the revitalization.
The council will also be asked to consider an agreement with Mueller pallets of Sioux Falls for on-site re-grinding and removal of the tree dump contents. This would be a five year agreement at no cost to the City of Sheldon.
Wednesday’s council meeting begins at 4:30 in the upper level of the Sheldon Community Services Center.
