Council To Hold Public Hearing On Sale Of Sunset Motel & Garfield Avenue Properties

Sheldon, Iowa — The City of Sheldon recently accepted a redevelopment proposal for one of a trio of nuisance properties identified last year by the city.

The first property, the former location of DJ Redemption, was purchased by Kent and Janet Lohrenz, and they plan to demolish the building this coming summer.

The process of selling the other two properties, the former Sunset Motel at 1401 South 2nd Avenue and a residential property at 1023 Garfield Avenue will, be the subject of a public hearing at Wednesday’s meeting of the Sheldon City Council. The council, according to City Manager Sam Kooiker, will hold a public hearing on contracts for deed for the properties, and are expected to approve contracts for deed of the properties with Kerwin and Kathy Sterler. The offer by Kerwin and Kathy Sterler was accepted, and negotiations began. Kooiker says the contracts have been signed by the Sterlers.
