Council To Hold Several Public Hearings Wednesday

Sheldon, Iowa — When the Sheldon City Council meets Wednesday, March 6th they’ll hold several Public Hearings.

The first will be on a resolution approving the adoption of the Fiscal Year 19-20 budget.  The second will be on the plat of the McCabe subdivision located south of the east side of the City.  The Council will then hold a hearing on the recommendation from the Planning and Zoning Commission to rezone that subdivision from Agricultural to Suburban Residential with certain conditions.  And the final Public Hearing will be on rezoning the Bolkema property located at 1202 South 3rd Avenue.  Planning and Zoning has recommended rezoning this from Multi-Family Residential to Arterial Commercial.  Other property in that area has already undergone this rezoning.

The Council will also set the time and date for submitting a Community Facilities Grant on behalf of Village Northwest Unlimited.  The proceeds of this grant will be use for two Intermediate Care Facility buildings for people with intellectual disabilities.  It is hoped that the grant will generate $600-thousand of the estimated $3-million cost of the project.  Village Northwest will undertake a fundraising campaign for the remaining dollars.

In other business, the council  will act on the proposed 28E agreement with the city of Archer, hold a workshop on the Emergency Services needs and the possible Mid-American Franchise agreements as well as  respond to three requests to have fireworks displays at Crossroads Pavilion for special events such as weddings.

Wednesday’s Council meeting begins at 4:30 in the upper level of the Sheldon Community Services Center.
