Sheldon, Iowa — When the Sheldon City Council meets this Wednesday, January 15th, they will review a draft re-development agreement with Kent Lohrenz for the purchase of the former DJ’s Can Redemption Center at 428 Park Street (Highway 18 West). The next step in the process will be to set the date for a public hearing, which is required by ordinance for the sale of any city-owned property. The council will also discuss the redevelopment of the old Sunset Motel property as well as the property located at 1023 Garfield Avenue. Both Kerwin Sterler and Tim Pottebaum have submitted proposals for the re-development of those two properties.
The Council will also hold a public hearing on a resolution to change the procedure for hearing public comments at their meetings. At the present time, public comments are heard at the beginning of the meeting for non-agenda topics only. With the new resolution this would be changed to include comments on all non-public hearing agenda items as well.
In other business, the council will consider a resolution authorizing the Northwest Iowa Community College Sports Shooting Team to use the Community Center, and another resolution which would establish a Sheldon Fire Department Depreciation Fund. And the council will also hold a public hearing on the proposed merger of the two city employee unions into one.
Wednesday’s council meeting begins at 4:30 in the upper level of the Sheldon Community Services Center.
