Sheldon, Iowa — A new fire truck and a new Community Park will be on the agenda when the Sheldon City Council meets this Wednesday November 7th.
The truck would replace the Fire Department’s twenty-year old Engine 4. In their request for approval to purchase this new equipment, the Fire Truck Committee says they had asked that $600-thousand be included in the coming fiscal year budget, but during their workshop the Council removed that item from the budget. However, the committee says they were told to work on the specs to get a more accurate price, and then the council would “find us the funding.” After looking at four different fire apparatus manufacturing companies the committee chose a Spartan custom pumper with all the features they were looking for. The cost of the new pumper would be $552,312.00. The Fire Department expects they could sell the old pumper for $45 to $75-thousand dollars.
The council will also consider a proposal to have RDG Planning and Design of Des Moines develop plans for the new Community Park to be located adjacent to the Crossroads Pavilion and the pond in eastern Sheldon. The plan would include input from the public at public hearings and meetings. The cost for RDG’s services would be $20-thousand, $10-thousand each from the City and SCDC. RDG is the same firm that did the planning for the Crossroads Pavilion.
And the Council will learn if there is any new information on the topic of Nuisances and Dangerous Buildings .
Wednesday’s meeting begins at 4:30 in the upper level of the Sheldon Community Services Center.
