Council To Talk Garbage Contract, Downtown Recycling During Wednesday Meeting

Sheldon, Iowa — Garbage hauling contracts will be on the agenda when the Sheldon City Council meets in regular session this Wednesday.

The current contracts with the City’s garbage haulers, De Kruif Disposal and Schwarz Sanitation, expired at the end of June and the Council will discuss a new contract, along with the future of the downtown recycling container, during Wednesday’s meeting.

The Council is also expected to set the date for opening the bids for the Sheldon Recreational Trails project, as well as scheduling a public hearing for the East Side Water Tower and Western Avenue projects.

In other action, the Council is expected to confirm the Mayor’s appointments to various City boards, authorize the closure of downtown streets for Crazy Day, which will be Wednesday, July 20th. They’re also scheduled to approve liquor licenses and beer permits for various Sheldon businesses and organizations.

The agenda also includes a closed session for the purpose of discussing a potential real estate purchase.

Wednesday’s City Council meeting will be held at 4:30 pm in Council Chambers at the Sheldon Community Services Center. The meeting is broadcast live on the City’s YouTube Live channel.
