Council To Talk Parking, Airport Storage Building

Sheldon, Iowa — Parking restrictions, re-zoning, and construction of a new building at the airport are among the topics to be discussed when the Sheldon City Council meets at Noon on Tuesday, July 3rd.

The Council will hold a public hearing on the bid acceptance and construction contract for a new snow removal equipment storage building at the airport. The lone bid for construction of the building was from Larson Contracting Central, LLC of Lake Mills, Iowa. The City’s engineering firm has recommended that the bid of of $284, 330.00 be accepted. When added to other costs, such as Engineering Services, the project total adds up to $343,030.00. Ninety-percent of that cost is expected to be covered by a federal grant.

The Council will also consider a resolution and ordinance dealing with parking restrictions. If adopted, the ordinance would mean a year-around ban on three downtown street segments…..9th Street between2nd Avenue and 5th Avenue, 3rd Avenue between 8th Street and 10th Street, and 4th Avenue between 8th Street and 10th Street. The proposed ordinance would also address parking on East 6th Street, and would prohibit parking at any time on the north one-half of East 6th Street between 19th Avenue and 23rd avenue.

In other business, the Council will consider the second reading of re-zoning certain property on South 3rd Avenue.

Please note that this Council meeting will be held at noon Tuesday, July 3rd, in the upper level of the Sheldon Community Services Center.
