Law Enforcement Out In Force This 4th of July

Northwest Iowa — If you plan on driving somewhere during this July 4th holiday period, area law enforcement is reminding you to keep your attention focused entirely on the task of driving.

The Iowa Governor’s Traffic Safety Bureau has initiated a sTEP, or Special Traffic Enforcement Project that will run through Wednesday, July 4th. Iowa State Patrol Trooper Vince Kurtz says law enforcement officers are out in force, in an effort to keep motorists safe.

Kurtz says officers will be on the lookout for drivers who are speeding, driving distracted, driving impaired, and not wearing their seat belts.

He says troopers, deputies, and city police officers will be out doing more than just writing tickets.

Trooper Kurtz says studies have shown that citations change driver behavior, and help reduce crashes.

Kurtz says the Iowa State Patrol wants to wish everyone a happy, and SAFE, 4th of July.
