Court Cases Continued For Pair Accused Of Robbing Le Mars Bank, Fleeing In Rental Truck

Le Mars, Iowa — The trial of the pair of Sioux City residents accused of robbing a Le Mars bank before attempting to make their getaway in a U-Haul truck has been continued in federal district court.

On December 12th, Le Mars Police say a man entered the Iowa State Bank branch in Le Mars and committed a robbery. Following the robbery, police say the robber, who they later identified as 32-year old Phillip White, along with a female later identified by police as 35-year old Karen Merrick of Sioux City, fled in a U-Haul rental truck. The truck was pursued by law enforcement from several agencies before being stopped, at which time White and Merrick were placed under arrest.

Police say an undisclosed amount of money was recovered from the U-Haul truck after the pair were arrested.

According to online court records, White’s trial on a weapons charge has been continued until July 1st in Plymouth County District Court in Le Mars. Since bank robbery is a federal crime, the pair will have their case heard in Federal District Court in Sioux City. A motion to continue that trial was filed, and the continuance was granted. The trial in federal court is now set to begin on July 1st at 9:00 am in Sioux City.
