COVID Fatality Numbers, Positive Tests Up Again In The Area

Northwest Iowa — Three more residents of the four-county area of Lyon, Sioux, O’Brien and Osceola counties lost their lives to COVID-related illness in the past seven days, according to information from the Iowa Department of Public Health.

The three deaths bring the four-county total to 197 since the pandemic began. O’Brien County saw the COVID-related deaths of two residents, bringing their pandemic total to 61. One death was reported in Lyon County in the past seven days, bringing their death toll to 42. Sioux and Osceola counties report no additional COVID-related deaths this week, leaving their totals at 77 and 17, respectively.

175 new positive COVID test results were reported in the four-county area in the past seven days, that’s eight more positives than last Monday’s report. Lyon County reports 39 new positives, which is an increase of 24 over last week’s total of fifteen. O’Brien County reports 25 new positives, which is the same number as last week’s report. Sioux County reports six fewer positives than the week before, with 82 new positives, while Osceola County reports ten fewer positives, at 39.

As for COVID vaccinations, O’Brien County has the highest percentage of fully-vaccinated adults, with 59.4% of O’Brien County adults vaccinated. Osceola County is next at 52.8%, Sioux County at 50.7% and Lyon County at 50.2%.

Statewide, Buena Vista County here in northwest Iowa has the highest percentage of fully vaccinated adults at 78.5%, while Davis County in far southeast Iowa still has the lowest percentage at 45.5%.
