Spencer, Iowa — The U.S. Department of Labor Wage and Hour Division reports that they have recovered a substantial amount of money in back wages owed to a dozen employees of a Spencer fast food restaurant.
According to the Labor Department, their investigators recovered nearly 23 thousand dollars, including more than 11 thousand dollars in back wages, along with an equal amount in damages, for twelve employees at Taco Bell in Spencer.
Investigators say the restaurant’s manager had deducted hours from time cards before submitting them to the corporate office for processing, in violation of the Fair Labor Standards Act.
Wage and Hour District Director Marietta Taylor in Des Moines says the case shows the “costly consequence of totaling hours worked incorrectly”.
