Dordt Holds Virtual Commencement Ceremonies

Sioux Center, Iowa — Dordt University hosted a virtual commencement on Friday, with the ceremony airing via Livestream.

The university’s stated goal was to provide students and families with a meaningful experience that honors students’ achievements as graduates, even though Dordt is not able hold an in-person event this spring.

The ceremony featured Dr. Justin Bailey, assistant professor of theology at Dordt, as the commencement speaker. His speech was titled “The Wisdom of Weakness: The Coronavirus and the Cross.”

In addition to Dr. Bailey’s speech, the virtual commencement ceremony featured a special musical performance by Campus Ministries.

The coronavirus forced the college to hold a virtual commencement instead of the traditional program. As faculty chairman Mark Christians read the names of the graduating seniors, a photo of the graduate was also displayed.

Dordt had 69 graduate students, 286 Bachelor Degrees, and 13 Associate Degrees in their class of 2020.
