Northwest Iowa — Eleven new cases of COVID-19 were reported in the four northwesternmost Iowa counties on Monday, according to the Iowa Department of Public Health.
Since Saturday, seven new positive results were reported in Sioux County, two each in O’Brien and Osceola counties, and no new positive tests in Lyon County. About twelve percent of northwest Iowans have tested positive for COVID since March 2020. Roughly one person in eight in this area has tested positive at some point since that time. Health officials remind us that the numbers only indicate people who have had a COVID test that came back positive. As with any other disease, the actual number of people who have had the disease is thought to be much higher.
No new deaths were reported on Sunday or Monday. O’Brien’s death total remains at 54, and Sioux’s remains at 67. Lyon’s remains at 40, while Osceola’s remains at 13. The death toll for the area is at 174 since the pandemic began.
Out of the 1,423 Lyon County residents who have tested positive for COVID-19, 1,325 of them have recovered, for a recovery rate of about 93%.
Out of the 4,697 Sioux County residents who have tested positive for COVID-19, 4,489 of them have recovered, for a recovery rate of about 96%.
Out of the 1,766 O’Brien County residents who have tested positive for COVID-19, 1,639 of them have recovered, for a recovery rate of about 93%.
Out of the 660 Osceola County residents who have tested positive for COVID-19, 626 of them have recovered, for a recovery rate of about 95%.
Osceola County currently has 21 active cases, which is up two since Saturday. There were 73 in O’Brien County, which is down two since then, and 58 in Lyon County, which is down seven. Sioux County has 141 active cases, which is up four.
