Sibley, Iowa — The trial in the criminal case of a former Sibley-Ocheyedan teacher and coach accused of sex abuse — has been pushed back to August.
In Osceola County District Court, 39-year-old Kyle Ewinger is charged with Second Degree Sexual Abuse, which is a Class B Felony, in connection with an incident that happened in 2015 at Sibley-Ocheyedan Middle School, where Ewinger was a middle school Social Studies Teacher. Ewinger was allegedly found, by Sibley-Ocheyedan Superintendent Bill Boer, asleep in his classroom with a 10-year-old male student, on Saturday, October 3rd, 2015. The boy eventually told authorities that something of a sexual nature occurred during the encounter.
The trial has been pushed back a couple of times. Most recently it was scheduled for Tuesday, April 10th. Court records indicate that the trial has now been reset for Tuesday, August 28th.
The victim and his mother have also brought a civil case against the Sibley-Ocheyedan School District and two other districts where Ewinger previously taught. The civil trial is scheduled at this point for October 23rd, 2018 at the Osceola County Courthouse in Sibley.
