Extension Agronomist Joel De Jong Retiring At End Of August

Le Mars, Iowa — A man you hear often here on KIWA, you may not hear much anymore. When it comes to crops — one of our frequent topics on KIWA news — we have often visited with Iowa State University Extension and Outreach Field Agronomist Joel De Jong. But in a few days, De Jong will be cleaning out his desk and moving into the ranks of the retired.

De Jong says his last day is this coming Wednesday, August 31st. And he invites everyone to a retirement party get-together.

De Jong says he’s worked for the extension service for over 40 years — most of it from Plymouth County. He tells us it’s been fun, and many of his clients have become friends.

He tells us a replacement will likely be announced soon, and that they will probably be housed out of the Plymouth County Extension Office as he was. At any rate, says De Jong, call the Plymouth County office for more information.
