Des Moines, Iowa — A new leadership team is in place in the Iowa Senate, following the departure of the former Senate Republican Leader.

Sources earlier today said the job of Senate Republican Leader was a two-man race between Hull Senator Randy Feenstra, and Senate President Jack Whitver of Ankeny. In a vote this (Wednesday) morning, the 28 Republicans who remain in the senate, elected Whitver to fill the Leader position. Whitver had been the #2 Republican in the senate.

The Iowa Senate Republicans chose Senator Charles Schneider, a West Des Moines attorney, to replace Whitver as Senate President. Senator Amy Sinclair, an Allerton Republican, is the newly elected GOP whip in the senate.

The Iowa Senate Republicans refer to themselves as a “Caucus” and Whitver says he’d honored to be their new leader.

Hull, Iowa — Sources indicate a state legislator from Hull is one of two Iowa senators in a two-man race to replace former Republican Leader Bill Dix who resigned Monday after video surfaced of the married Dix appearing to kiss a lobbyist in a Des Moines bar.

State Senator Rick Bertrand of Sioux City says either Hull Senator Randy Feenstra or Senatee President Jack Whitver would be an able leader for the 28 Republicans in the state senate.

Five months ago Bertrand called for his colleagues to replace Senate Republican Leader Bill Dix for fumbling the response to a senate staffer’s sexual harassment allegations.

Senate Republicans are expected to elect their new leader today (Wednesday, March 14th).
