Northwest Iowa — This is the first day of the filing period for county offices in Iowa. While most candidates run unopposed for their party’s nomination, there is a primary election scheduled for June 2nd, with the general election scheduled for November 3rd.
Candidates may file papers with their county auditor’s office from now until March 25th.
In our four primary coverage counties, there are a number of seats up for election.
In O’Brien County, the positions of County Auditor, County Sheriff, County Supervisor District 1, County Supervisor District 2, and County Supervisor District 3 are all up for election. The incumbents of those offices are County Auditor Barb Rohwer, County Sheriff Allen Schuknecht, District 1 County Supervisor Sherri Bootsma, District 2 County Supervisor John Steensma, and District 3 County Supervisor Nancy McDowell.
In Osceola County, the positions of Districts 2, 4, and 5 County Supervisors, the County Auditor, and the County Sheriff are up for election. The incumbents are District 2 Supervisor Jayson Vande Hoef, District 4 Supervisor Jerry Helmers, District 5 Supervisor Ed Jones, County Auditor Rochelle Van Tilburg, and County Sheriff Doug Weber. Van Tilburg says Weber does not plan to run again.
In Sioux County, the positions of County Auditor, County Sheriff, and supervisors of districts 1, 3, and 4 are up for election. Incumbents are County Auditor Ryan Dokter, Sheriff Dan Altena, 1st District Supervisor John Degen, 3rd District Supervisor Al Bloemendaal, and 4th District Supervisor Mark Sybesma.
In Lyon County, the positions of County Auditor, County Sheriff, and the supervisors of districts 2 and 3 are up for election. Incumbents are Auditor Jen Smit, Sheriff Stewart Vander Stoep, District 2 County Supervisor Merle Koedam, and District 3 County Supervisor Mark Behrens.
