Sheldon, Iowa — A second candidate has now filed papers to run for the vacant Sheldon 2nd Ward City Council Seat.
Wednesday afternoon (May 12th) Madeline Kopel filed her papers at the Sheldon City Office. Her name will now join that of Sandra Johnson on the ballot for the June 8th Special Election.
Any other residents of the 2nd Ward who intend to run in the June 8th Special Election must have their papers returned to the Sheldon City Office by 5:00 pm this Friday, May 14th.
The 2nd Ward seat became vacant with the resignation of former Councilman Shawn Broesder. The City had initially intended to appoint a 2nd Ward resident to fill the empty seat through the end of Broesder’s unexpired term, which ends January 1st. Plans changed when residents of the 2nd Ward presented a petition calling for an election to fill that position. The seat will again be on the November ballot for the next full term.
Voting will be held Tuesday, June 8th at the Crossroads Pavilion Event Center. Voting is limited residents of Sheldon’s 2nd Ward, which extends from Western Avenue east to Washington Avenue, and from 8th Street to the north City Limits.
