Northwest Iowa — As of Friday afternoon the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office was advising no travel in the county, after the first snowstorm of the season.
Rain started changing into snow about 5 a.m. in Sioux Center and began freezing. The roads were still passable but conditions quickly changed as it turned to all snow and winds started to pick up.
Several schools in the region announced they’d be starting on a two-hour delay, but as more snow fell, quite a few cancelled class all together.
According to Observing Program Leader Brad Adams at the National Weather Service in Sioux Falls, snow amounts in northwest Iowa ranged from one to two inches in Sioux City, to over four inches in Sioux Center.
Several accidents were reported in the area due to slick and slushy roads and low visability.
We asked him what we can expect next, weather-wise.
He says the snow probably won’t stick around long.
However, Adams says there is a chance for precip on Tuesday and Tuesday night.
He advises people to take it easy on the roads on Friday night on the way home from work, especially due to the possibility of some lingering slushy conditions.
