Four Area Bands To Compete In Luverne, MN Saturday

Luverne, Minnesota — Four northwest Iowa high school bands will be among eighteen competing in the the 66th annual Tri-State Band Festival on Saturday, September 24, 2016.

Luverne Chamber Director Jane Wildung-Lanphere tells us how it all got started.


She says parade competition begins at 9:30 a.m. on Main Street in downtown Luverne. Thirteen marching bands will perform on the parade route, including the Boyden-Hull and George-Little Rock marching bands.

Wildung-Lanphere says they really have great judges.


She tells us that the field competition begins at 12:30 p.m. on the Cardinal Football Field of the Luverne Public Schools at 709 North Kniss Avenue (on Highway 75) in Luverne.  Eleven marching bands will perform intricate maneuvers. Among them will be the West Lyon and Sibley-Ocheyedan high school marching bands.

Admission to the field competition is by Tri-State Band Festival buttons. Buttons can be purchased for $5 each during the parade or will be sold at the gate.

The chamber estimates that 2,000 students will perform throughout the day.

The participating bands are Adrian, MN; Boyden-Hull, IA; Brandon Valley, SD; Garretson, SD; George-Little Rock, IA; Lennox, SD; Madison, SD; Murray County Central, MN; O’Gorman, SD; Pipestone Area, MN; Sibley-Ocheyedan, IA; Sioux Falls Roosevelt, SD; Stewartville, MN; Tea, SD; West Central, SD; West Lyon, IA; Worthington, MN; and Yankton, SD.
