Free Virtual Training Designed For Foster & Adoptive Families Next Week

Spencer, Iowa — A free virtual training specifically designed for northwest Iowa foster & adoptive families is planned for next week Saturday.

Seasons Center and the Family Support Center will host the free virtual training for Foster, Adoptive & Kinship families on Saturday, April 23rd from 9:00 – 11:00 a.m. The training will be led by Shari Simmons, MSW, LCSW.

Seasons Center officials tell us that as an author and motivational speaker, Shari Simmons’ passion and expertise “leaves families inspired and equipped with tools to manage trauma, stress, and relationships.”

They say Simmons has been a foster parent herself and works with many foster/adoptive parents in her private practice. During this training, Simmons will discuss topics such as tools & strategies for parenting foster/adoptive youth, how the limbic brain operates in children, and how to identify the need beneath behaviors.

Family Support Center Permanency Support Specialist and foster and adoptive mother Sherri Huizenga says that she saw Simmons speak last year and says, “She is a wonderful speaker with a powerful message. We are thrilled to have [Simmons] share her expertise, experiences, and inspirational message with the foster/adoptive community.”

The training will occur virtually via Zoom. Online registration for the training is available by clicking here.. Registration links can also be found on the Events page of the Seasons Center website or on the Seasons Center Facebook Events page.

For those who register for the training, Zoom links will be provided via email prior to the training date. For those with limited access to the internet, a dial-in option will be available. They tell us Foster/Adoptive CEUs will also be available for this training.

If you have questions about this training, or how to register, please contact Stephanie Pohar at spohar@seasonscenter.org.
